Instructions for use
The best spot
Don’t hang the bird house in direct
sunlight and ensure that rain cannot get in. In general, this means that the
opening must be pointed to the North East.
The best time
Wilnest is an all-season bird house. If you
want to use it as a nesting box, it is advisable to hang your Wilnest well
before the breeding season, for example in January, so that the birds can get
used to it. If you want to use your Wilnest as a feeding box in the winter, hang
it well before the first real cold, for example in September.
The best height
The best is a height between 1.5 metres
and 2 metres. In any case, hang the bird house well out of reach of cats and
other raiders. For this a dense shrub can offer good protection.
Multiple bird houses
If you want to hang multiple bird
houses in your garden, the distance between the various bird houses must not be
too small. Boxes for different bird species must be at least 3 metres apart from
one another. Boxes for the same bird species must be at least 10 metres
apart.
Maintenance
Empty the box at the end of the breeding
season, at the beginning of October. Remove the nest and thoroughly clean the
bird house. It is then ready for the next occupants.
Protection against the stone marten
In spite of the
indestructible plastic and the rugged construction of the Wilnest bird house,
the stone marten can be a threat to the nest. If the stone marten is active in
your vicinity, you can fit a sort of ‘mask’ around the house with chicken wire.
This makes it more difficult for the stone marten to reach the bird house and
knock it free.
